Star Wars The Black Series 6" First Order Stormtrooper (SDCC)

Okay so I didn't exactly come away from STGCC empty handed. Ignoring the cries of my wallet, I decided to get an exclusive version of the First Order Stormtrooper. Thanks to a friend for picking it up for me.

The outer package is a white slip on cover. The print was very well done. The logo and the character image are embossed.

Remove the cover and you'll immediately see the figure. There's no bubble protecting the figure or anything. The figure and weapons are held in place by wires. Once opened it will be very tedious to put it back.

This exclusive version comes with an Evolution of the Stormtrooper booklet. It shows and gives a brief description of each type of trooper from the Clone Troopers to the Stormtroopers and to the First Order Stormtroopers. Most of the information regarding the First Order Stromtrooper is classified though. Guess we'll have to wait for the movie to find out more about them.

Too smooth. That's my first impression of seeing the design of the First Order Stormtrooper. It looks like they simplified things. The torso and leg pieces are mostly flat, curved pieces. I would have liked if it had a bit more shape on it like with the previous troopers. This also gives him a "wide" look. There's still some nice sculpted detail on the suit. There's a keypad like thingy sculpted on both his forearms. He looks to be wearing additional pouches and he can carry a weapon at the side of his leg. The helmet maintains a similar shape to the Stormtrooper's and does not have as much clearly visible detail.

Accessories. He comes with two weapons. The first of which is a blaster rifle. It is similar in design to the Stormtrooper's. Here it is white and black in colour. The paint apps are good. I like that they used a bit of silver for the scope.

The second weapon is a blaster pistol which is similarly coloured. They both have good detail on them and have a protruding piece on the side.

That allows them to be attached to his right leg where there's a groove.

Articulation. He's got a ball hinge neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, torso pivot, ball hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot. He can look up and down decently. There's not much movability for the wrists hinge. He could really use double jointed elbows. He can't hold his rifle two-handed properly.

Comparison shots. I still like Stormie's look best.

The figure is decent. I'm not fond of the design. Still I'll be looking for at least one more piece of him as he's a trooper. At least two I need for army builder types. Thanks for viewing!
