STGCC 2014 Update 4: 8 more Pop Culture Personalities Unveiled


Singapore, 14 August 2014 – With just three weeks before Singapore becomes a mecca for all things pop culture, the Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention (STGCC) unveils eight more pop culture personalities, starring designer Matt “Sekure D” Fabris whose customised sneaker art has been an international sensation.

Joining him at this year’s Walk of Fame line-up at the annual convention are popular toy designers Scott Tolleson and Angry Woebots, as well as kakkoi (cool) cosplayer Lenneth XVII and kawaii (cute) cosplayer Aliga, who will bring distinctly different cosplay styles to the table. 

Comics go wild at this year’s convention with the likes of rising Asian artists, such as Singapore comic artist Evangeline Neo aka Eva of Evacomics, and Western comic illustrators Philip Tan and Aaron Kim E. Jacinto rounding up this latest lineup of pop culture personalities.

Hot Toys, which recently announced that they have acquired the rights to manufacture collectible figures from the Star Wars universe, including the upcoming highly anticipated Star Wars Episode VII set to hit theatres in December 2015, will be celebrating their joint venture with Star Wars at STGCC. 

So get ready to be star struck by STGCC’s galaxy of stars for one electrifying weekend on 6 and 7 September at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Marina Bay Sands!




Designers Galore

Air Jordan III Symbiote Pack

Voted by global print magazine and website Sneaker Freaker as one of the top 10 sneaker artists around the world, Matt “Sekure D” Fabris’ customised sneaker designs have been exhibited as artworks in museums in Australia and London. His latest custom series of the Air Jordan III Symbiote pack, featuring three custom Jordan IIIs for the characters Spiderman, Venom and Carnage, has created immense hype among comic and sneaker fans alike. 

Equipped with the natural ability to unleash his creativity over a number of mediums, Sekure D has crafted exceptional works of art not only in the form of sneakers, but also vinyl toys. His talent has won him collaborative projects with big brand names like Kidrobot, Nike, Jordan Brand and Globe.

Having designed pieces for various Walt Disney parades, venues and merchandise, Scott Tolleson’s toys are full of vibrant colours and zest. He has collaborated with a multitude of companies for various projects, including Singapore designersMighty Jaxx and Pobber (Both will be exhibiting at STGCC!).

This STGCC, he will bring in the adorable melancholic looking “Kookie No Good” (yes it is a fortune cookie), among other goodies for his fans.

Angry Woebots returns with his group of angry pandas to stir up a ruckus at STGCC. Kidrobot, Disney/Mindstyle, Converse Red, Samsung, FLABSLAB Singapore are just a few of the companies that Angry Woebots has worked with to produce designer toys, designs and live works. He has also worked on a couple of murals, including the Heineken Mural Project, which involves painting on walls using aerosol, rollers and house paints.

Asian Pop Culture Stars

Kakkoi cosplayer Lenneth XVII, a Singaporean who is now active in the United States of America, has impressed many cosplay fans with her detailed handmade costumes and portrayal of Bishounen (beautiful young boys) character. The versatility of her cosplay can be seen from her mature and dark themed cosplays such as Ragyo Kiryuin from the popular anime Kill La Kill, to the light-hearted and cute cosplays such as Makoto Tachibana from anime Free!

Aliga is widely popular and famously known in Southeast Asia for her kawaii cosplays, such as Kotori Minami from anime LoveLive! and Tsukihi Araragi from anime Nisemonogatari. She has also attended various cosplay events across Asia as a VIP guest cosplayer and judge.

Philip Tan is a penciller, inker and cover artist who has worked for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Image Comics and Wildstorm. Best known for his runs on Spawn and Uncanny X-Men, he now mostly hangs his hat at DC Comics breathing life into titles like Green Lantern and Batman and Robin.

Filipino comic book artist Aaron Kim E. Jacinto is considered as one of the youngest rising stars at Marvel Comics. A determined artist who has overcome many obstacles in the pursuit of his passion before he was discovered by Marvel Comics’ talent scout C.B. Cebulski, he has worked on various titles from Wolverine Max to Venom and Indestructible Hulk.

Hot Toys x Star Wars

Following the latest announcement of Hot Toys acquiring the official merchandising rights to bring the Star Wars universe to life in the form of high-end collectible figures. Hot Toys and Action City will be celebrating this win at STGCC with a spectacular life-size Star Wars costume display at its 1,200 square feet booth this year.
